Southern Ridges
Overview
The Southern Ridges Walk is a 9km walk that connects the hills of Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, Kent Ridge Par and West Coast Park. If you are an nature lover, you defintely should not miss this walk. It is one of the best spots in Singapore to catch panoramic views of the city, harbour and the Southern Islands.
There are 8 trails at Southern Ridges.
- Marange Trail - A newly completed trail that gets you to Mount Faber from Telok Blangah Road. It extends from Marang Road, just behind the HarbourFront MRT Station (Exit D) to the cable car station at the Jewel Box on Mount Faber. It reaches a height of 70m with steps and shaded footpaths. Remember not to walk at this trail at night because it is not lit at night.
- Faber Trail - A slightly longer trail measured at 1km, going through Mount Faber Park and ends at the Henderson Waves.
- Henderson Waves - The 274m wave pattern bridge connects Mount Faber Park and Telok Blangah Park. At 36m above Henderson Road, it is Singapore's highest pedestrain bridge. At this height, it offers panoramic views of the southern part of Singapore and the Southern Islands. The bridge lits from 7pm to 2am daily.
- Hilltop Walk - A 1km tail which runs through Telok Blangah Hill Park. The trail connects on one end with the Henderson Waves and the other with the Forest Walk leading to Alexandra Arch
- Forest Walk - A 1.3km elevated zig-zag walkway through the secondary forest of Telok Blangah Hill Park and connects to Alexandra Arch. With a height of 3m to 18m, you may brushes the canopy of trees and offers a bird's-eye view of the forest.
- Alexandra Arch - The opened leaf lookalike arch spans 80m across Alexandra Road and connects the Forest Walk to HortPark. Like the Henderson Waves bridge, Alexandra Arch will be lit with colour-changing LED lamps from 7pm to midnight daily. Nearby is the Gillman Village, formerly a British miltary camp, now houses pub, restaurants and furniture shops.
- HortPark - A 23ha gardening and lifestyle hub houses 20 theme gardens. It is the Southeast Asia's first one stop shop for gardening-related recreational, educational, research and retail activities in a park setting. Open from 6am to 10pm daily
- Canopy Walk - A 300 metres trail which links Kent Ridge Park to Reflections at Bukit Chandu. With a height of 16m at the centre, Canopy Walk goes through secondary forest with groves of Tembusu and dominant trees of the adinandra belukar.
Tips
- It may take about 5 hrs to finish the 9km walk from HabourFront MRT station to West Coast Park. Plean your time properly.
- Split the whole trail into muliple days.
- Park your car in the bigger car parks, like the Seah Im Food Centre carpark, Kent Ridge Park carpark or the Hortpark carpark.
- Take plenty of water with you. You would need lots of water if you are walking in the afternoon.
- Bring insect repellent for the obivous reason
- Do not feed the wild animals in Southern Ridges
- Do dress comfortably and wear walking shoes.
How to get there
Getting to Marang Trail:
By MRT: alight at Harbourfront station Exit D By Bus: take bus service number 10, 30, 57, 61, 65, 80, 93, 97, 100, 131, 143, 145, 161, 300, 408, 646 or 855 alight at bus stop in front of Seah Im Food Center at Telok Blangah Road By Car: Carpark is available at Seah Im Food Center
Getting to Henderson Waves:
By Bus: take bus service number 131, 145, 176, 409 or 648 alight at bus stop along Henderson Road, take the staircase up to Mount Faber Park.
By Car: Parking is available at Mount Faber Carpark D (17 lots) and Telok Blangah Hill Park Carpark 1 (17 lots) & Carpark 2 (total 39 lots). Parking is available at SAFRA Mount Faber (210 lots) at 2 Telok Blangah Way.
Getting to Forest Walk:
By Bus: take bus service number 51, 61, 93, 97, 100, 166 or 963 and alight at bus stop along Alexandra Road (junction of Hyderabab Road)
By Car: Parking is available at HortPark-the gardening hub (155 lots) or Telok Blangah Hill Park Carpark 2 (39 lots) & Carpark 3 (8 lots)
Getting to Canopy Walk:
By Bus: alight at Alexandra Road (junction of Hyderabad Road), a 25mins walk via HortPark-the gardening hub
By Car: Parking is available at Kent Ridge Park Carpark B (Vigilante Drive, 47 lots); Carpark C (25 lots) at Pepys Road
